The challenge
COVID-19 has caused mass disruption in low-income, densely populated areas. In response, the Indian Government has set up quarantine centres, labour camps and hospitals. These crowded areas need sanitation solutions, disinfection services and PPE to ensure public safety.
TRANSFORM Survive & Thrive supported Saraplast in the procurement and delivery of these critical services at multiple locations across India.
The impact enterprise
Saraplast provides under served communities in India with portable sanitation and waste management solutions, made from refurbished buses.
The idea
Saraplast are working to ensure that these locations are equipped with sanitation and disinfection services that meet World Health Organization (WHO) guidelines. Providing portable toilets and handwashing stations, using vehicle mounted jetty spray machines, and providing PPE kits for workers, Saraplast is helping to protect these locations and tackle the spread of the COVID-19 virus.
As a result of the support provided by the TRANSFORM Survive & Thrive initiative, Saraplast have been able to scale up their services and deliver impact.
Saraplast’s current deployments have reached 0.1 million people in Mumbai and Pune. With an increase in equipment and workforce, Saraplast will be able to reach at least 10 million beneficiaries in the next 6 months, across 8 locations in India.
