Geography:
Bangladesh

Single-use sachets of products such as shampoo, detergent and drinks are an affordable way for people in low-income communities to consume these items, but the resulting plastic pollution is a growing problem.

Refill Bangladesh is designing and piloting a scalable refill station distribution model to counteract the problem of plastic pollution caused by single-use sachets. TRANSFORM is providing support and distribution expertise. The pilot scheme is being run with multiple Unilever brands across several locations before rolling it out to and with other brands and companies.

The model will be enabled by a behavioural change campaign, that is also supported by TRANSFORM, to encourage consumers to make the shift from a take-make-dispose economy to this circular solution.

The initiative aims to have a strategic operational model and commercial business case for the refill distribution model ready for partners to scale up and replicate.
