Saltech Design Labs

Every year 380 million tonnes of plastic is produced globally and this figure is expected to double in 15 years. Only eight percent of plastic is currently recycled. This is because traditional mechanical recycling cannot create valuable products from single-use plastics, causing them to lose 95 percent of their value after their first use, making it uneconomical to recycle or repurpose them.

Saltech Design Labs deploys advanced closed-loop recycling technology to extract maximum value from waste, transforming single-use plastics, construction and demolition waste, and industrial solid residues into high-value composite building materials. Their patented process creates materials that outperform traditional concrete and are price-competitive, particularly for precast products.

This sustainable alternative building material is carbon-negative compared to traditional concrete; reducing emissions associated with waste disposal and resource depletion. The company targets the affordable housing and infrastructure market to provide climate-positive, factory-made precast products that reduce labour costs and increase construction speed, promoting sustainability and circularity.

This TRANSFORM-supported project is intended to upcycle post-consumer plastic waste into composite building materials and supply this as a sustainable alternative to traditional building materials in the construction and infrastructure sector in India.

Grant funding from TRANSFORM will be utilised in operations, hiring, brand promotion, outreach, business development, pilot executions and scale-up. This will catalyse the adoption of the technology and product, and create brand awareness and greater presence in the market.
